This is the removal of the dead wood from the tree. Dead wood provides opportunity for insect infestation, as bare wood is here exposed and, unlike the healthy wood, there is not the protection afforded by the bark against such infestation. Also, large pieces of deadwood can fall from the tree, so it is better to remove such pieces of deadwood before they fall. This can be done for aesthetic purposes also. This kind of pruning can be done at any time of the year. |
