A Crown Reduction is reduction in the overall size of the crown of the tree. This can be performed in order to keep a tree from becoming an obstruction or a danger - (where the spread of the crown has become too large, perhaps greatly shading property or growing too near to a building, e.t.c.). It involves the even reduction, by a small percentage, of the length of all the branches which form the shape of the crown, thus maintaining the natural shape, while reducing the size, or the crown. This is best performed in winter or in early spring.
